To offer up an explanation of the purpose of this website, Initially, I had planned to use it to meet two common goals;
The first was as an educational outreach tool related to the Invasive Species Project that I am working on with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and the second was to document my progress towards Earning (I hope) a Hornaday award.
Since I started working on this website, however, it has quickly grown from those initial humble beginnings, so much so, that I feel it is important from the beginning to explain that its purpose is not to try and impress anyone, as some may think, but rather I am hoping to show other Scouts how they too may reach some of the goals that I have set for myself.
I have enjoyed every merit badge that I have earned so far, and I have learned something unique from each and every one, and if by what I write about how, when and where I earned each one, and what I learned during the process that I am able to inspire some other scout to earn it as well, then I will feel that I have spent my time well.
When I first crossed over to Boy Scouts, I set myself a goal of earning every merit badge possible, but I know that if I am able to do that, it will not be because I am smarter or stronger or wiser than anyone else, but rather it will only be because I had sufficient perseverance. In this, I would leave you with a famous quotation from Former President Calvin Coolidge
